Great Grandpa's Birthday

My mom's dad's birthday was October 26th, and Mom invited him down for a party.  He lives in Tremonton, so he's a ways away, but we've been able to see him quite a bit these days.
My Grandpa Royce has been the only Grandpa I've known.  He and my late Grandma Bette have always been my only grandparents, and I love them.  I have a lot of wonderful memories of spending time at their house in West Point.  My Grandpa Royce loves horses and animals (a true cowboy), and you can see that by seeing how animals respond to him.  Harry won't leave him alone.  :)

I remember one time when I was about eight, I slept over at my grandma and grandpa's, and I was thirsty, so I went to the fridge.  There was an open can of one of Grandpa's drinks,  so I helped myself.  I was so shocked and disgusted at the taste.  My grandma thought it was pretty funny and she told me it was Grandpa's Neer Beer.  Yep, he's a real cowboy, my grandpa.

One thing I've really appreciated about him the past few years is the empathy he's offered me in losing Michael.  He was totally heartbroken when Grandma Bette left us 13 years ago, and he's often told me that he knows my pain.  Even though our experiences have been different, I've taken comfort in knowing that he understands the brutality of the experience.

Grandpa's wife, Nadene, is in the back.
